I attended a conference yesterday in the city called #140 State of YOU Conference where I had the pleasure hearing Caroline Rothstein, a poet, a writer and a body empowerment advocate, speak so beautifully and bravely about her eating disorder and her struggles with her body and relationship to food.
It was one of those days where I wasn’t sure if I felt like trucking into the city all the way uptown to go to hear people speak about nutrition but something kept pulling me in and that inner voice said “Go. At least to hear this girl speak and then you can leave”. I knew nothing about her only the title of the lecture which was The Art of Body Empowerment. I love when the universe tells you where you need to be.
I was beyond moved by her spoken words and grateful to know that people are finally freely talking about these real, deep, painful issues like body dysmorphia, anorexia, bulimia or binge eating.
I was so moved by Caroline’s ability to share her personal story through her art that I spoke to her after the lecture and we are going to collaborate in the near future.
Here is what I know.
- Our relationship to our body is our longest and most important relationship in our life. WE NEED TO LOVE AND NURTURE IT.
- We can’t use food to hid, run away or stuff down our feeling. The only way to heal, to lose weight, to live in a body you love is to FEEL YOUR FEELINGS!
- YOU ARE NOT ALONE. So many women spend hours and hours wishing they were different. Think about what you can do with all that time instead of focusing on hating yourself. Find support. Find Inspiration. Be part of my Positive Body Community.
- FOOD FREEDOM IS POSSIBLE AND YOU DESERVE IT!!!
Now onto the AMAZING SPOKEN WORD POEM by Caroline:
I would LOVE to hear your thoughts in response to her poem.
Check her website out here and be on the look out for an awesome collaboration with Caroline and the Positive Body Program.
Hugs and Health,
